The 200-ton crane was installed twelve days ago at the base of the promontory and will allow the damaged elements to be rebuilt
Once the security work at the base of the Monteagudo Castle has been completed, prior to the start of the reconstruction and rehabilitation work on the medieval fortress, the company that won the competition from the Ministry of Culture, the UTE Castillo de Monteagudo, is currently focused on removal of vegetation from the south of the promontory. The installation of the 200-ton crane facilitates this task, as a suspended cabin has been raised, from which the operators work.
The architect and director of the work, Francisco Sánchez Medrano, explains that, so far, “the work is fluid and within the planned” and commented that some scaffolding had already been placed on the left front of the fortress. “We are transferring the necessary material for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the lost or damaged elements, as well as preparing the removal of the metal scaffolding that was installed around the year 2000 in the middle of the right end of the Castle and that was never removed; we don’t know why », he points out.
The bulk of the restoration work, “which will be easier to see”, will begin at the end of September, advances the director of the work, in which the Ministry is going to invest around one million euros.
The architect works side by side in the execution of the project with the restoration specialist Pilar Vallalta and with the head and general director of the work of the Castillo de Monteagudo joint venture María José Serrano and Francisco Ibarra, from Patrimonio Inteligente and Tudmir, respectively. All of them, Sánchez points out, are from the Region of Murcia.
It is expected that this first phase of rehabilitation will be completed by the end of this year.
The PP criticizes the fact that access to the Roman remains found in the area continues to be closed
The Popular Municipal Group in the Murcia City Council criticized yesterday that the musealization of the Monteagudo Visitor Center with the Roman remains found remains closed for more than a year, despite the fact that the works have been completed.
In a statement, the popular recalled that this area has almost 300 square meters and lamented that “the works, which we left completed, today are abandoned and do not have any type of maintenance,” said the mayors Marco Antonio Fernández and Jesús Pacheco.
The Monteagudo Visitor Center will be “the benchmark for all historical and archaeological research and will become a pioneering space for scientific dissemination through the most advanced audiovisual systems,” the councilors stressed.
