Mexico City.- Elements of the National Guard (GN) used their firearms to disperse a demonstration of civilians demanding the release of a young man in the municipality of Vista Hermosa, Michoacán.
In various videos uploaded to social networks, the uniformed officers can be seen shooting, pointing their weapons at citizens and even kicking a woman who had a piece of cardboard in her hand.
Yesterday, the protesters blocked Highway 37 towards La Barca, Jalisco, near some GN facilities.
At the site, several tires and at least two motorcycles were set on fire.
Local sources report that the protesters demanded the release of a young man and the departure of the National Guard from Vista Hermosa, a town with about 20 thousand inhabitants.
The federals advanced towards the protesters and at times stones were thrown from both sides.
However, the uniformed men continued towards the blockade point and there they broke the blockade with the use of their weapons and attacks on women.
Citizens complained on their social networks about excessive use of force by members of the federal corporation.
Almost 24 hours after the violent events, the National Guard has not officially commented on the actions of its troops.
In the last 15 days, elements of the GN were accused of allegedly committing abuses in León, Guanajuato, with arbitrary arrests and an alleged sexual attack.
“On Sunday they told us about an arbitrary detention, we are analyzing presenting a formal complaint; what they told us is that (agents) detained him (a trade inspector), handcuffed him, they did not even make him available to a authority, they released him later,” said León Mayor Jorge Jiménez.
“What we want to ask is the reason, to date they have not answered us. We will be waiting for the observations of the Guard.”
Jiménez Lona also acknowledged that there is an accusation of sexual abuse against elements of the institution, of which he did not give further details.
Added to these events is that last Sunday elements of the GN went to a home in the popular Industrial Colony, where minutes later a massacre of two babies and four women was perpetrated.
