Autumn takes many people to warmer climes. You can find an overview of what you need to consider regarding the Corona regulations on vacation for many countries here.
Munich – Whether Austria, Spain, Italy, Greece or simply the most beautiful regions of Germany – autumn invites you to take another holiday before the cold season and to recharge your batteries and sun. However, it is to be expected that the corona numbers will rise again in the coming months; Tourists should therefore pay attention to the rules regarding the pandemic at their destination. Merkur.de has put together the Covid measures in the most popular travel countries for you, so that nothing should stand in the way of your autumn vacation.
Autumn: Vacationers in Germany, Austria and Italy hardly see any restrictions
While the Infection Protection Act for Germany will prescribe new corona rules from October 2022 and, in particular, will bring back the obligation to wear masks in many areas, many countries are still fine-tuning their corona measures for autumn. It is therefore advisable to check the current regulations in the destination region in detail before you travel so that you do not miss any short-term innovations.
Austria: If you want to spend the golden autumn days in Austria, you don’t have to fear any restrictions. Entry is free, provided it is not from an area with a high epidemiological risk – but Austria does not currently categorize any nation as such. In the summer, an Austrian working group presented a paper outlining possible scenarios for autumn 2022, but the government apparently sees the infection situation as relaxed. The country even lifted the quarantine requirement for corona infected people in August 2022, only an FFP2 mask requirement exists for infected people.
Italy: In the summer of this year, Italy also overturned almost all of the corona regulations that had been in force up to that point. Since June 1st, 2022 there is no longer any obligation to provide proof, registration or quarantine, only the FFP2 mask obligation still applies in all public transport. However, masks are still recommended when moving in public spaces.
Vacation in autumn: Spain and Turkey have corona rules for tourists
Spain: In Spain, vacationers have to adapt to Corona regulations. Anyone arriving by air from countries outside the EU or the Schengen area still needs a Covid certificate. Those who do not have one must fill out the Spain Travel Health health form online and present a current PCR test. In addition, travelers with a body temperature above 37.5°C or other abnormalities may be subject to a more detailed investigation. However, those who are passing through or onward travel are not subject to any restrictions.
Masks are compulsory in public transport and pharmacies throughout the country. However, children under the age of six and people for whom wearing a mask is contraindicated for health reasons are exempt from this. Wearing a mask is recommended for particularly vulnerable groups. There is also a ban on smoking outdoors in public places if a minimum distance of 2 meters cannot be maintained. Note: Depending on the region, further regulations may apply.
Turkey: Quite a few autumn vacationers are drawn to Turkey. No Covid proof is required upon entry, all exit restrictions have been lifted. Restaurants are open, but distance between tables must still be maintained. Music can only be played until midnight, shisha cafes remain closed. Smoking is prohibited on busy streets and in public places.
However, the Federal Foreign Office points out that controls and sometimes arrests can often occur. The instructions of the local safety authorities should therefore be followed and the applicable rules strictly observed.
Autumn vacation in Greece: Travelers should definitely take precautions in case of a corona infection
Greece: In May 2022, Greece dropped most of the corona measures, but the mask requirement (FFP2/N-95/surgical mask) still applies in all public transport, in taxis and on ships. Incoming travelers are no longer required to show a Covid certificate or fill out the PLF (Passenger Locator Form), a record of arrival in the country.
However, a simplified form of the PLF is still provided, which can be used voluntarily. It is used to be able to have an EU certificate issued for a negative or positive COVID-19 test result. Besides, it is highly recommended that tourists install the Visit Greece app (GDPR compliant) free of charge on their smartphone before arriving in Greece.
In case of symptoms, an FFP2 mask must be worn and a doctor must be consulted. Anyone who is infected but does not need treatment in the hospital must prepare for a five-day quarantine. You have to choose and pay for your own accommodation. It is therefore strongly recommended that you take out appropriate travel insurance. People who have come into close contact with people who have tested positive are obliged to wear a mask for ten days, regardless of their vaccination status, and a test for COVID-19 must be carried out after five days.
