The train is one of the means of transportation that thousands of people choose every day in our country to move from one point to another, whether near or far, since there are communications from both medium and long distance.
For a few years now, the train service for travelers in Spain was run exclusively by Renfe, however, this changed with the inclusion of companies outside the Spanish one such as Ouigo or Iryowhich have already been operating for a few years on some specific routes in our country.
Seeking to expand the coverage of these foreign railway companies throughout the national territory, Adif reported in a press release this Tuesday, October 30, that the second phase of the liberalization of rail passenger transport through a framework capacity offer in three new corridors to reach 70% of the population.
New routes and when they will be available
Thus, it would include the competition in the following new high-speed routes: Madrid – Galicia, Madrid -Asturias/Cantabria and Madrid -Cádiz/Huelva. However, Adif indicates that the process will not end until the end of 2026moment from which new operators will be able to start their activity.
It is also worth noting that all these lines will operate with different gauges, so Ouigo and Iryo must include trains in their service that they can change their width and that, currently, they are not prepared for it.
In an Adif document titled ‘Declaration on the network’, they include preliminary information on the capacity offer, which sets out the lines in which all the new framework capacity offer is made and the time slots available to circulatecollects Europa Press. Specifically, there are 32 paths per day in the case of the Madrid-Galicia connection, 24 between Madrid-Asturias/Cantabria and 16 on the Madrid-Cádiz/Huelva line.
Although foreign companies will need to adapt their trains to the variable width of the new routes, Adif maintains that these are itineraries “in which a high potential has been identified, with a great projection of travelers thanks to their technical features and the high commercial speeds they allow.
