Consumer Reports has finished its annual list of the most and least reliable brands of 2021 — in the United States. The figures are based on a questionnaire sent out to new car owners, asking them to list the problems of the past 12 months. These are divided into 17 different categories, ranging from engine and transmission to body and technology. This results in a reliability score out of 100. On average, the car brands score between 40 and 60 points.
The top 3 most reliable car brands are taken by Japanese manufacturers, with Lexus taking gold ahead of Mazda and Toyota. The German premium constructors are not doing great, not Porsche (13), nor Audi (15), BMW (17) or Mercedes (23). At the very bottom we find Volkswagen (24) and Tesla (27). The least reliable car brand is Lincoln, according to Consumer Reports.
