Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Sverdlovsk region, on the development of high-speed rail traffic in the country. They also discussed the construction of a high-speed line (HSR) Moscow – St. Petersburg; the issue of such a route to Minsk was also discussed; this initiative was supported by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

The pilot project for the construction of the highway is planned to be implemented on the principle of public-private partnership on the basis of a concession agreement, Savelyev specified.
A company has already been created that plans to act as a shareholder of the concessionaire. They called it “High-Speed Line Two Capitals”. It is proposed to identify the Federal Agency for Railway Transport of the Ministry of Transport of Russia as the grantor.
In turn, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the basic scheme of the high-speed railway line Moscow – St. Petersburg has already been agreed upon.

At the beginning of October, it became known that the construction of the high-speed line from Moscow to St. Petersburg is planned to be completed by the end of 2027, and of most other high-speed railways by 2043.
In addition to the route connecting the two capitals, the construction of lines Moscow – Smolensk – Minsk, Voronezh – Rostov-on-Don – Adler, Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan – Yekaterinburg is expected. In total, the authorities are going to spend almost 11 trillion rubles (10.8 trillion) on four new high-speed lines.
