The Tuscany of the “Uffizi diffusi” has been included in the list of “The World’s 100 Greatest Places of 2021” (the 100 most beautiful places in the world in 2021), drawn up and published by the prestigious Time Magazine. “A list of 100 unique destinations: from the idyllic Portuguese city of Arouca, now home to the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world, to the continent of Antarctica, which will experience a rare total solar eclipse this December.”
The Tuscany of the Uffizi diffusi, with Sicily and Venice, are the only three Italian places included in the world list that has been drawn up taking into account the ability to adapt, build and innovate despite the extraordinary circumstances we are experiencing. “Much of the charm of Tuscany is its timelessness, so when something innovative happens, like the Uffizi Diffusi project in 2021, it needs to be noted – writes Time -. Born from an idea of the director Eike Schmidt, the goal is to spread the Renaissance works, together with the visitors who typically flock to Florence, in some of the ancient towns of the region, starting with the hilltop villages of Poppi and Montespertoli ”. An exhibition dedicated to the Supreme Poet has just been inaugurated in Poppi, in the Castello dei Conti Guidi where Dante Alighieri wrote some parts of the Divine Comedy; in Montespertoli there will soon be one dedicated to sacred art.
“Just two weeks have passed since the start of the project, and the international press is already rewarding us with this beautiful recognition”, the words of the director of the Uffizi Galleries Eike Schmidt. “The media around the world have already spoken extensively about this initiative, from the American CNN to the Chinese China Daily, from the German Deutsche Welle to the British Financial Times and Daily Telegraph – he continued -. This global attention gives us hope that the initiative will be able to direct tourist flows by decentralizing them throughout Tuscany. I was sure that an innovative idea like that of the Uffizi Diffusi would have its recognition. And obtaining international and prestigious feedback like the one just received from Time is confirmation of the great value of this proposal ”.
In addition to Tuscany, as mentioned, Time has chosen other Italian destinations such as Venice (“a future-proof icon) and Sicily (“ history by the sea ”). Outside our borders: Arouca (Portugal), the Antarctic continent, the Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia, Osaka in Japan, the Okavango delta in Botswana and many other wonderful destinations around the planet.
