Ciudad Juárez.- After the expiration of the Used Car Import Decree on September 30, the Federal Government has not published a new extension, car sellers accused. They assured that in Ciudad Juárez they will stop the admission of up to 400 vehicles per week.
Daniel Cereceres, head of the Federation of Used Cars and Trucks (FACAF), regretted that in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) the Regularization Decree has been extended, that is, that of “crooked” vehicles but not the which makes it easier to enter them through an import request.
He stated that since the deadline expired at the end of last month, merchants have been renting land in the United States to be able to house their units. He added that they must pay up to five dollars per car per day, so they hope that an expansion will occur soon.
“I think we are talking about around 2,500 vehicles on the border that right now, since there is no decree, are going to be stranded in the United States. We are going to reach the conditions where we will not be able to sustain it (the lease) and we would have to jump ‘crooked’,” he pointed out.
He stressed that the people of Juarez have the right to obtain a car with its documentation in order and not to be forced to acquire the so-called “chuecos” or “chocolate”, understood as those that are smuggled into Mexico and that have not been legally imported. .
“It is very bad news. Not only do we merchants lose, but all of us as border people lose. Imports are stopped under this scheme and only imports remain through the Regularization Decree, which is that of ‘crooked’ cars,” he stated.
Cereceres highlighted that they were previously pressuring the central level requesting the extension, so he hopes that the President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum, already has the document for signature on her office desk and it will be published in the DOF soon.
“Hopefully this will happen, or we will have to raise our voice that the import request is being canceled and they are giving permission to crooked vehicles, which have restrictions that cannot enter the United States. It is a decree that has caused a lot of corruption,” he said.
He stated that at least they hope that the time will be extended until December 31, to – in that period – polish the proposals with the intention that on January 1, 2025, a new, more appropriate decree, endorsed by the Executive, will begin. benefiting the Government and the sellers.
