Sony revealed that there are currently the same number of active PS4s as PS5s. That is taking into account that each one has about 49 million users who continue to play with them on a monthly basis.
This also reflects that millions of the company’s customers still do not see it necessary to buy its next-generation console. But where does this interesting information come from? Well, from a report known as Game & Network Services.
Sony itself shared it in its most recent meeting focused on the business segment. The numbers we shared with you before suggest that 42% of 117 million PS4s are still active and working.
We recommend: Brazil will be the place where PS5 games are manufactured for Latam.
In contrast, 86% of 56 million PS5s are used each month. Another detail revealed is that the PlayStation 5 has more hours of play than the PlayStation 4; is 2.4 billion versus 1.4 billion, respectively, which is significant.
Monthly user numbers include any console ‘used to play games or [acceder] to services on PlayStation Network’. As some point out, this applies even to those who only use their PS4 to access Netflix or another service.
There is no shortage of those who are surprised that a console launched in 2013 still has a user base in the millions. But we must not forget that it has a very extensive game library.
At least 189 PS4 video games do not require a PS5 to be played, and these can be enjoyed on this latest console. Despite the above, according to analysts, the PlayStation 4 is not damaging the ‘bottom line’ of the PlayStation 5.
That comes to light with the profits made by Sony, as the company’s video game division earned $10 billion in profits from $106 billion in sales in the almost four years of the PS5 generation.
