Krefeld – On Thursday evening, a man was shot by the police at the Cinemaxx cinema in Krefeld. He had previously allegedly set several fires and had probably just tried to set a fire in the cinema. The man is said to come from Iran, which is leading to extensive debates on social media. According to the police, nothing is yet clear about the perpetrator’s motive, other information from Krefeld is already known. However, there is no evidence of a terrorist attack.
A witness now told the Picturenewspaper that he observed the man setting fire to a Caritas bus: “I suddenly heard something loud bang, several times in a row. I got out, there was this man,” said Ibrahim Schkeer, who observed how the man then broke windows. “Then he had a bottle of petrol and poured it inside through the broken window. Then he took a handkerchief, lit it on fire and threw it into the car.”
Cinema employees in Krefeld suspect that the suspected arsonist used gasoline
Loud dpa A cinema employee also suspects that the man had petrol with him. He observed that the alleged perpetrator was in the process of spilling a flammable liquid that smelled of gasoline in the foyer area of the cinema when the police officers arrived that evening.
According to the cinema employee’s statements, there were around 150 employees in the cinema at the time of the crime. Thanks to quick emergency calls and the intervention of the police, something worse was prevented.
Arson attack in Krefeld: Suspect still being treated
Initially, numerous reports of three fires were received via the police emergency number on Friday evening. According to this, an apartment, a parked vehicle and an office building burned within a short period of time on a street in the Cracau district.
In the foyer of the cinema, the police used firearms against the suspect when he tried to set fire. The man was still receiving medical treatment on Friday morning.
