The I Edition of the Youth Corrida, scheduled for April 12 in Illescas, has undergone a date change so as not to coincide with the bullfight that will be held a few kilometers in Toledo, whose benefits will be destined to support the National Hospital of Paraplegics, in which Marco Pérez and Pedro Rufo will fight, who will debut with picadores. The new date chosen is October 18, 2025L. The decision has been taken in a consensual way between Andrés Roca Rey, Guillermo Hermoso de Mendoza, Olga Casado and the organizing company, “as a gesture of responsibility, sensitivity and commitment to the whole of the bullfighting world,” explains the statement of Maxitoro:
«This change of date is motivated by the coincidence with a beneficial celebration in the city of Toledo, a cause with a deep human and symbolic value for all bullfighting professionals. Likewise, the Illescas City Council has also expressed its solidarity towards this celebration that will take place in the city of Toledo, its support for the decision and its impulse to the new date, which is sure will be a new success.
The company Maxitorro SL has received social, institutional and media pressures from some sectors that saw in the coincidence of both events a damage to the collection of the charity. And although both the impulse and the initial reception of the Youth run have been extraordinary, it would not make sense to move forward if the project, born with a vocation to add, ended up dividing or affecting such a noble cause.
To this is added the voice of different youth associations that, with enthusiasm, have shown their desire that this initiative will be postponed to other dates. That request, far from discouraging, reaffirms that the goal is clear: to make youth the true protagonist of this new way of living bullfighting ».
For its part, the main architect of the event, Roca Rey, also wanted to explain what happened:
«When a project is born from delivery, truth and freedom, you must also know how to stop when circumstances ask.
The run of youth is a proposal that looks to the future, but not at any price. We knew there was illusion and desire, but we also feel that something that can expect – as our event is – should not harm something that cannot be expected, as is a beneficial cause that our support needs today.
Therefore, with the support of Guillermo Hermoso and Olga Casado, and in total tune with the company, we have decided to postpone the date and support the celebration of Toledo from the heart. Betting on youth is also teaching with the example ».
