The Slovenian point guard, 18 years old and from Real Madrid, will be the third baseman of a team practically made
UCAM still has three signings to make official or, at least, finish bringing to fruition those that are more than on the way. But there was only one identity yet to be known of the squad of thirteen players for his first team that Sito Alonso’s team will start with next season in the Endesa League and the Champions League. And yesterday it was revealed: Urban Klavzar (Ljubljana, 2004), a 1.84-meter point guard from the Real Madrid youth academy, will be the last piece of a puzzle that he completes as third baseman and fifth local training quota with which to compete in Europe .
And, despite his age, projection and club of origin, Klavzar did not arrive in Murcia on loan from Real Madrid, but rather owned by UCAM, who signed him a contract for one season with the possibility of extending it to two more. In the minds of the player and his agents, an NBA that still does not have him under their radar, but that, if he enjoys space to play at UCAM, as is intended, will be in time to appear in the forecasts for the next drafts.
With 18 years of age a month and a half ago, Klavzar will play his first season as a senior in Murcia, although the last two years he has already competed in the EBA league with the Real Madrid subsidiary, forming an explosive pair of game directors with a Juan Núñez , to average 15.3 points per game.
Closed Urban Klavzar as third baseman, today the UCAM will announce David Jelínek, who will alternate the positions of shooting guard and small forward
Arrived in Madrid in the summer of 2018, his training in his country took place at Helios Suns with which he caught the attention of the Spanish youth basketball team in the VM Develops de Bellpuig (Lleida) cadet tournament, where his team was runner-up, he was the top scorer and designated MVP, with a memorable performance of 38 points in the semifinals against Joventut. Real Madrid then invited him to see his facilities and after the U-16 Eurobasket he played against Slovenia, in which Klavzar shone once again being a year younger than most players, he was convinced of signing him.
Great debut in the Euroleague
Short in stature, but with a very powerful chassis to absorb penetrating contacts and legs that allow him to rise much higher than other players of his size, Klavzar is a player who considers himself very accomplished and who, if he continues to mature physically, could alternate the ‘1’ and ‘2’ in his career, since he has a marked scoring instinct and a wide range of resources to generate his own shots after the bounce. But, for now, he is a base and becomes the disciple of Tomás Bellas, also trained in the white quarry.
The moment of greatest media importance of his career occurred last December, when the Euroleague denied Real Madrid a postponement in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak and he had to pull a multitude of homegrown players. That day, Klavzar was key in the victory against CSKA (71-65) and amazed with a cheek with which he scored 10 points.
