The world of Italian sport, in particular that of football, learned yesterday afternoon with great sadness the news of the death of Luciano Nizzola. He was 89 years old and from 1996 to 2000 he had held the role of President of the FIGC. Many messages of condolence have appeared on the web in these hours, even from the greatest exponents of Italian football.
Born in Saluzzoin the province of Cuneo, on January 5, 1933, Nizzola completed all his studies very well and became a civil lawyer.
His name begins to circulate in the world of Italian football which counts in the eighties, when it becomes Honorary President of Torino Calcio. Then in 1987 he became President of the LNP (National Professional League), of which he had already held the role of vice president in the past.
He held this position until 1996 and his mandate will be remembered forever for the passage from an era that was still not very profitable for Italian football, to one of wealthcoinciding with the entry of pay-TVs into the television rights market.
These operations also caused gods disagreements between the different companies. Those in the second tier accused him of favoring those in the first tier, such as Milan and Juventus, for example.
On 14 December 1996 he was elected President of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation), the most important body in the world of Italian football. He held this position until 2000.

The world of football greets a gentleman manager. His spirit of service and his availability marked an era. In the various roles that he has covered, he too has distinguished himself for the decisive impulse that was given to our system in those years.
