The women’s FC Barcelona made a historic and practically unrepeatable 2020/2021 season with the conquest of the treble, including the first Champions League in its history. That triumph in the continental tournament made the Catalans sweep the awards ceremony for the best UEFA players of the year.
In the Best Goalkeeper category, Sandra Paños won the award, beating Christiane Endler and Ann-Katrin Berger. Irene Paredes, currently in the ranks of Barcelona, was voted Best Defender for her season with PSG reaching the semifinals. Jenni Hermoso was awarded Best Forward. And Alexia Putellas doubled by taking the UEFA Best Midfielder and Player of the Year awards ahead of her two teammates Hermoso and Lieke Martens completing a 100% Barça podium.
In addition, the already ex-technician of the Barça team, Lluís Cortés, won the award for Best Coach of a female team for that unique triplet.
FC Barcelona will pay tribute to the four players awarded by UEFA on Sunday 29 in the preview of the men’s first team match against Getafe to be played at 17:00 at the Camp Nou. It is expected that coach Lluis Cortés can also attend the tribute.
