The World Health Organization (WHO) announced the stabilization “at a very high level” of the situation with COVID-19 over the past two weeks. This was announced by the Executive Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program Michael Ryan, his words are quoted on the organization’s page in Twitter…
“If you look at the graph [заболеваемости] over the past couple of weeks, you can see that there has been a kind of stabilization. But it happened at a very high level, ”Ryan said.
According to him, now the situation with the spread of coronavirus in the world is better than two or three months ago. Ryan added that in some countries there is a sharp decrease in infection rates, while in other states the opposite situation is observed. The epidemiologist suggested that this is due to various factors, including the emergence of more infectious strains of coronavirus, mitigation of anti-epidemiological measures and an increase in the number of contacts between people.
At the end of June, WHO spokesman Tarik Yazarevich said that a number of countries were replacing other variants of the coronavirus with the “lambda” variant, also known as C.37. The first samples of this type of virus were discovered back in August 2020 in Peru. Since that time, WHO has regularly monitored the spread of this variant of the coronavirus.
