After a weekend of heavy rain in the Pyrenees of Huesca and on the Catalan coast, the week that begins is marked by persistent rain in the far north and occasional showers in the east and in the Balearic Islands due to humid winds from the north, a low-impact depression (isolated depression at high levels) and a cold front, with a tendency to improve towards the weekend. On the thermometers, there will be an advance of autumn in the northern half and in the centre of the country, where temperatures will be low for the time of year, according to Luis Bañón, spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), on Monday.
This Monday, the expert describes, The northern tip of the peninsula “will be exposed to humid winds from the north”which will leave a lot of cloudiness” in the Cantabrian area and in the north of Galicia and the Pyrenees, where light rainfall is expected, which will be more abundant in the eastern end of the Cantabrian Sea, although some scattered rain cannot be ruled out in areas of the rest of the far north, as well as in the Balearic Islands. In the north of the Canary Islands there will be low cloudiness and, in the rest of the country, the skies will be partly cloudy.
“Maximum temperatures will be higher in most parts of the country and will drop on the eastern coast and the Balearic Islands,” says the meteorologist. In degrees, the highest maximum temperatures will be 35° in Murcia, 32° in Badajoz and Córdoba, 31° in Seville and Málaga and between 28° and 30° in Ciudad Real, Toledo, Valencia, Zamora, Madrid, Jaén, Lleida and Cáceres. On the other hand, 21° is expected in A Coruña, Lugo, Pamplona, Vitoria and Santander. In addition, a strong Tramontana wind will blow in the Ampurdán and a strong Cierzo wind in the lower Ebro.
On Tuesday, the “far north of the peninsula is expected to remain under the influence of humid winds from the north”, which will leave some light rainfall in the Cantabrian area, although it cannot be ruled out in the rest of the far north and in the Balearic Islands. On the other hand, a new low pressure area, the third in two weeks, is expected to approach the west of the peninsula. “It is not expected to have a major impact, but it could favour the development of some isolated showers in points of the southern half of the Levant”, predicts Bañón, adding that temperatures will remain without major changes, except in the Cantabrian coast, where they will drop. By provincial capitals, the warmest will be Toledo, Seville, Murcia, Córdoba and Badajoz, with 32/33°. On the other hand, it will be 20° in Santander and Lugo. The winds will blow strongly in Ampurdán, the lower Ebro, the Strait and the Galician Atlantic coast.
On Wednesday afternoon, a cold front will reach the far north with abundant cloudiness and precipitation that may be persistent at times, while the remains of the cold front may favour the development of some showers in the far south, in the east and in the Balearic Islands. Temperatures “will drop in a large part of the country, with the drop being more marked in the northern plateau,” the spokesman adds in the forecast. Strong winds will blow in the same areas as the previous day, as well as on the eastern Cantabrian coast and in areas of the Canary Islands.
On Thursday morning, there will be abundant cloud cover in the northern third of the peninsula, with “precipitation that could be very heavy in the far north, although it will tend to subside at the end of the day.” This precipitation could be snow at high altitudes in the Pyrenees, the first of autumn. There will also be “some showers in the northeast, in some parts of the east and in the Balearic Islands,” adds the expert. Temperatures “will drop in a large part of the country, being abnormally low for the time of year in a large part of the northern third.” However, they will remain unchanged in the far southeast and in the Canary Islands. Strong winds will blow in Ampurdán, Ebro, the Balearic Islands, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Canary Islands.

On Friday, “showers could continue, generally weak, in the Cantabrian coast; in the Pyrenees, where they could be snow at high altitudes; and in parts of the Balearic Islands and the southeast of the peninsula.” However, they will cease throughout the day. For the weekend, stable weather is expected with little cloud cover. Temperatures “will drop on Friday in much of the country, being abnormally low in much of the northern half, including the minimum temperatures on Saturday, and will rise progressively during the weekend,” predicts Bañón. As for the wind, it will be strong in Ampurdán and in the northwest of Galicia on Friday, with a tendency to ease during the weekend.
These new showers this week will be added to those of last weekend, when “persistent, stormy, occasionally intense and accompanied by hail” rainfall was recorded in areas of the Pyrenees, with accumulations On Friday, more than 100 liters per square meter in Seira and Canfran (Huesca) and 40 liters in Bielsa on Saturday. There was also rain on Saturday afternoon in the far south and in the early hours of Sunday in the Balearic Islands and inland Andalusia. During the day, it spread to the Catalan coast, where it was very intense, with more than 50 litres in areas of the Barcelona coast.
