A group of people have been waiting for hours the arrival of emergency services at a roundabout near the Valencian municipality of Algemesí, at the intersection of CV-42 and CV-5121. They find themselves without means to protect themselves from the cold and rain.and practically no battery in the mobile phones with which they try to get them rescued.
The roundabout was the only place where they could take refuge and it was an initiative of Miquel Alandetea teacher who was traveling from Valencia to Algemesí, and who had to hastily abandon the vehicle he was driving because the CV-42 highway had become a huge riverbed that carried away everything it found. When Alandete was able to get out of his car, he saw how other cars suffered the same misfortune and were sliding at high speed downstream. From one of them, the professor was able to rescue a family, whom I can help and move to the roundabout where they are currently sheltered, but without any protection against water and inclement weather.
In a brief telephone conversation with ABC because he was about to lose all the battery in his cell phone, Miquel Alandete insisted that a long time has passed since they called the firefighters to provide them with his position and that They are still there without knowing when they will be rescued. “The water has taken our cars, no one is coming to rescue us,” he said before losing the connection.
Previously, the affected person indicated that he has been able to see many cars floating and sliding on the waterwithout knowing if they had passengers inside or not and without being able to approach them. The entire CV-42 area is flooded, mainly Almussafes, Benifayó and Algemesí. Other witnesses pointed out that there are many people sheltering in the old tolls on the AP-7, awaiting rescue.
Precisely, at 00:30, the president of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazónappeared before the media at the La Eliana Emergency Coordination Center and warned that all personnel are “prepared and ready” to act and, if they are not being able to reach some places, it is because, “Either there is a breakdown in communications, or because they are flooded areas”.
For this reason, Mazón called on people who found themselves blocked to remain calm, «that they know that it is going to arrive and that, if it has not been achieved, it is not due to lack of means, nor due to lack of predisposition, nor due to lack of capacity, because capacity is all about access; “It is still an access problem,” he asserted.
