Ubaldo Cuesta, who has been vice chancellor of the Complutense University from Madrid (UCM) since June 2023, has communicated this Tuesday to the Governing Council of the university center its resignation from office claiming “personal reasons“, as advanced ABC and university sources have confirmed.
The resignation of the vice-chancellor arrives after the dean of the Faculty of Information Sciences from the UCM, Jorge Clemente Mediavilla, denounce pressures by the Rectorate in the investigation commission that tries to clarify in the Madrid Assembly whether there was favorable treatment of the UCM with Begoña Gómez, the wife of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
As Clemente explained during his speech in the Chamber, the vice-rector considered his “insistent” request for information “workplace harassment” about the operation of the extraordinary chairs assigned to the aforementioned faculty, for which reason he reported him to the Services Inspection of the university center.
At the meeting of the Government Council held this Tuesday, Cuesta underlined that his resignation has nothing to do with this controversy and, according to UCM sources, the vice-rector until now has alleged “personal reasons.”
