The supply vessel “Ivan Sidorenko” has arrived in the German port of Mukran, which may take part in the completion of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, according to the vessel tracking portal. Vesselfinder…
The port is the base for work, it contains pipes and other materials for construction. The pipelayer Akademik Chersky is already at this place, and another supply vessel, Ostap Sheremet, is in Kaliningrad.
Threats from the United States, which promised to impose sanctions on the companies involved in pipe-laying, led to a halt in construction 160 kilometers from the German coast.
Gazprom has promised to complete the work on its own, but has not yet officially announced which vessels will be used for these purposes. Nevertheless, all three of these vessels were removed from its fleet and transferred to the ownership of another Russian company, not formally associated with the gas monopoly.
The gas pipeline is still threatened by the US’s intention to tighten pressure, up to the introduction of sanctions against the port of Mukran, as well as the situation around Alexei Navalny. Germany, where the Russian oppositionist is currently located, is considered the main supporter of the construction of Nord Stream 2, but does not exclude that it may abandon the project due to new circumstances.
Another option could be a deal, which, according to German media, Berlin has offered Washington. We are talking about the construction of two terminals for receiving American liquefied natural gas (LNG) worth a billion euros. However, experts doubt that this idea will force the United States to abandon its demands to destroy Nord Stream 2.
