Pentagon: Washington to send additional military contingent to Middle East
Washington will send additional military forces to the Middle East due to the worsening situation in the region. This was reported by the Pentagon, writes RIA Novosti.
“In light of rising tensions in the Middle East, and out of an abundance of caution, we are sending a small number of additional troops to bolster our existing forces in the region,” the department spokesman said.
However, the agency’s interlocutor refused to provide details, citing security interests.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the US policy in the Middle East has failed once again. According to her, American officials are chaotically traveling around the countries of the region, trying to “at least connect, knock together or straighten something, but nothing is working out.”
In turn, the head of the Russian diplomatic department, Sergei Lavrov, said that the States want to maintain a monopoly on any processes in the Middle East, which is a failing position.
