Congressman Massie: US is ‘shooting itself in the foot’ by imposing sanctions on other countries
The United States is “shooting itself in the foot” by imposing sanctions against Russia and other countries. This was stated by Republican Congressman Thomas Massie in interview journalist Tucker Carlson.
“I watched your interview with Vladimir Putin. He told the truth, which is that before the sanctions against Russia, 70 percent of all their transactions were in US dollars, and after the sanctions, this figure is less than 20 percent. The irony is that with all these sanctions we are shooting ourselves in the foot,” Massey said.
The congressman also said that the seizure of frozen Russian assets is theft. He noted the short-sightedness of such a decision.
Earlier, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted an increase in US government debt to 133.9 percent of GDP by 2029. According to analysts’ expectations, the total amount of the country’s liabilities by the end of 2024 will reach 126.6 percent of GDP, and after five years it will grow by another 11.8 percentage points (pp). As the IMF emphasized, the rapid increase in US public debt will make a significant contribution to the increase in global public debt.
