ArsTechnica: NASA has a plan in case Russia leaves the ISS
NASA has a plan in case Russia leaves the International Space Station (ISS), the American edition ArsTechnica.
According to NASA Deputy Administrator for Space Operations Ken Bowersox, everything depends on whether the Russian side decides to leave the ISS in 2028 or not. If Russia decides to leave, there are three possible scenarios. In the first case, the Roscosmos state corporation can simply leave the Russian segment of the station. In the second case, it can provide minimal support. The third case – the separation of the Russian segment from the American one – the head considers the least likely.
“Our main goal is to avoid any breakup [по времени] between the ISS and the platform that will appear later [на ее смену]”,” Bowersox said.
In July 2022, the head of the state corporation Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, claimed that Russia would withdraw from the ISS project after 2024.
