American retired Admiral James Stavridis, together with writer Elliot Ackerman, wrote a book in which they predicted a “nightmarish” world war that could happen in 2034.
Excerpts from the work “2034: A Novel on the Coming World War” published the edition The national interest…
It is noted that in the book the war begins with the conflict between the United States and China after US military destroyers enter the waters of the South China Sea in 2034.
“If you believe that future wars will be fought in the same way as in the past, in which the sophistication and number of our ships, aircraft and tanks are an important indicator of domination, then the United States will remain in an enviable position,” reads the book’s prologue.
According to the authors, the United States “maintains a dominant position when it comes to aircraft carriers,” however, “unmanned and autonomous military technologies are likely to dominate in the future.”
In addition, it is noted that there will be much less people in the armies of the future than they are now, and they will be used mainly as special forces.
“Our staffing needs will change: we will need to select, train and recruit people with a spetsnaz-like mentality. Fewer men and women will be needed, but they will be able to integrate with advanced technologies using biotechnological breakthroughs, ”the authors are convinced.
They also highlighted that cyberattacks will be one of the main assets and weapons in a potential world war of 2034.
On May 20, former Prime Minister of the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg, ex-European Commissioner for Digital Economy Gunter Oettinger believes that the third world war will take place without tanks and artillery – in cyberspace.
