US intelligence accuses Russia of influencing swing states ahead of elections
Russia is influencing swing states in an attempt to sway American voters ahead of the US presidential election. This was stated at a special briefing on the topic of elections by a representative of the office of the US Director of National Intelligence, reports RIA Novosti.
“Russia, in particular, has targeted swing states for a variety of influence efforts and operations that we see across the country, but in swing states in particular,” the agency spokesman said.
The official did not provide evidence for his words. He emphasized that the outcome of the vote may depend on Moscow’s actions, adding that the intelligence services cannot yet assess the effectiveness of Russia’s actions.
Earlier, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Alexey Chepa, spoke about Russia’s influence on the American election campaign. “If people have a different point of view on events from the US State Department, then they call this an influence on US citizens, and therefore on their point of view, including in the election process,” Chepa said.
