The rector remarks that “covid has not stopped us” and the university “has been able to adapt”
“Especially emotional”, is how Beatriz Miguel defined the solemn act of Santo Tomás de Aquinas, which has been celebrated again this Friday in the UPCT Paraninfo, partially recovering the traditional format that had to be altered last year, when still barely there was a population vaccinated against a pandemic to whose adverse situations that occurred “the Polytechnic University of Cartagena has been able to adapt,” according to the rector, concluding: “Covid has not stopped us.”
The master class, given by Vice Admiral Manuel Antonio Martínez, Director of Engineering and Construction of the Navy, focused on the naval industry as a technology driver.
As usual, during the act the extraordinary end-of-degree, master’s and doctorate prizes were awarded. Reference professors in the European Higher Education Area were also distinguished and the accreditation diplomas of the degrees that have the EUR-ACE seal of international excellence in Engineering were shown.
The Social Council gave its ‘In Memoriam’ Ginés Huertas Martínez and Isaac Peral awards to students, graduates, researchers, companies and social entities. Finally, the gold medal of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena was awarded to the previous rector, the professor of Signal Theory and Communications, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo.
