The Chair of Diversity Management at the University of Murcia began its journey with the signing of the agreement by which the Archena City Council becomes the first sponsoring institution of the project, whose main objective is to promote research in the field of diversity, as well as the dissemination and transfer of all that knowledge that is generated so that it is an element of impulse to equal opportunities in society. The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, and the mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernández, have been in charge of initiating this agreement, in an act that took place in the Convalescence, headquarters of the Rectorate.
Ana Millán, coordinator of Attention to Diversity at the University of Murcia, highlighted the role of the institution in the search for equity “since knowing the diversity that exists in society and understanding it is necessary to be able to work so that there is no discrimination and that will benefit the whole of society. Millán pointed out that, among the multiple lines that this Chair will focus on, it will bet especially on the impulse of the new technologies as a means of access to the integration of people with disabilities.
For his part, the rector emphasized the role of the University “to analyze and interpret the fact of social diversity and to be able to provide solutions that help promote integration.” The mayor of Archena expressed her “pride in being the first entity to join this project and to use all the means available to the City Council »to support the actions carried out by the Chair. Patricia Fernández has encouraged other institutions to join the Chair.
With this, the University of Murcia has already forty chairs in different fields of performance. The chairs are a formula that fulfills the double function of generating knowledge on matters of social interest and, on the other hand, that the University establishes links with organizations, companies and institutions in the Region.
