The US health authorities have reduced the recommended period of isolation for those infected with the Corona virus who do not show symptoms to five days from ten, as required by previous guidance. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also reported that those who do not show symptoms after quarantine must be required to wear a muzzle for five days when in contact with others. It also recommended a five-day quarantine for those exposed to the virus who were not immunized, or for those six months after they received the second dose of a vaccine based on messenger RNA technology, or more than two months after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and have not yet received a booster dose. And the mask must be adhered to for an additional five days after the quarantine period. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, isolation separates patients with an infectious disease from those who are not, while quarantine separates people who have been exposed to an infectious disease and restricts their movement to see if they are infected. “The CDC’s updated recommendations for isolation and quarantine balance what we know about the spread of the virus with the protection provided by vaccination and booster doses,” CDC Director Rochelle Walinsky said in a statement. And the centers said last week that 73 percent of Corona infections in the United States are with the new, mutated Omicron strain of the virus. Infections are higher among those who have fully vaccinated, including those who received a third booster dose. However, Omicron appears to cause milder symptoms in this group, although some have no symptoms at all. And the White House medical adviser, Anthony Fauci, told CNN last week that reducing the 10-day period recommended by the Centers for Disease Control for quarantine would help people return to work or study with appropriate precautionary measures.
