The White House said sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would not affect former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who is chairman of the Nord Stream AG shareholders’ committee. This is reported Reuters.
It is noted that Schroeder is not included in the list of the management of the Nord Stream 2 operator, against which Washington introduces restrictive measures.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that the country had imposed sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. “Today, I directed my administration to impose sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG and its officials,” Biden said.
The reason for the new pressure on the gas pipeline was Russia’s recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR). On Monday, February 21, the corresponding document was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the next day it was ratified by the State Duma and the Federation Council.
