The United States is developing means to combat hypersonic weapons. This was stated on August 18 by the country’s First Deputy Minister of Defense Kathleen Hicks during a conversation with reporters. Her speech was published on website Pentagon.
Deputy head of the Pentagon Hicks added that the American side is working on the creation of its own hypersonic weapons.
In addition, she believes that we can talk about progress in American hypersonic programs. Hicks added that the United States has its own vision of how to effectively use this type of weapon, and these views are “different from the views of the Russian Federation or China” in this regard.
On July 24, the head of the Pentagon supplier Raytheon, Wes Kremer, critically assessed the ability of the US Armed Forces to withstand a potential attack using hypersonic weapons.
Prior to this, on July 21, the head of the Northern Command (NORTCOM) of the US armed forces, General Glen VanHurke, said that Russia has an impressive arsenal of long-range weapons. He noted that this is the reason why he would not underestimate Russia.
On May 11, the director of the Missile Defense Agency, John Hill, said that the US Department of Defense plans to launch prototype satellites into orbit in 2023 to track hypersonic and ballistic missiles. The launch of the devices will be carried out as part of the creation by the American side of a tracking and surveillance system for hypersonic and ballistic targets.
