The United States and Western countries are losing to Russia in the fight for Ukraine. For the first time since 2014, the most popular political association there was the “pro-Russian” party Opposition Platform – For Life, according to the National Interest.
According to the authors of the article, the United States cannot abandon its current policy towards Ukraine without offering Russia an “undeserved victory.” At the same time, it is also impossible to continue the implementation of the strategy, because it reinforces “internal divisions, fueling the frustration and anger of the population towards America.”
Journalists note that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, unlike all his predecessors, had all the tools of power in his favor, including the support of Western countries. However, his mistakes in office and the continuation of “cultural division” policies, including those regarding the use of the Russian language, led to disappointment of voters.
At the same time, the ambassadors of the G7 countries also have a strong influence on Ukrainian politics, the newspaper emphasizes. Among the examples of Western policy in Ukraine is the dismissal of Viktor Shokin from the post of attorney general of Ukraine in April 2016 after Joe Biden’s negotiations with the then President of the country Petro Poroshenko.
In addition, the authors recalled the prevention of the dismissal of the head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau after the Constitutional Court of Ukraine recognized his appointment as unconstitutional, as well as attempts to dissuade Ukraine from buying the Russian vaccine against coronavirus and pressure to cancel the sale of the Motor Sich engine manufacturer to Chinese investors and other events.
“Such obvious subordination of Ukraine to the West began to cause dissent even at the highest level of government,” the journalists note. In their opinion, in the current situation, the United States is unlikely to increase foreign aid. In addition, rumors about the connections of the Biden family in this country negatively affect this. “It’s time to admit that US policy in the region has failed,” the article says.
