The newspaper El Clarín publishes that it is estimated that around 1,000 coal seams are burning around the world but they usually go out in a matter of days, a month at most, says odditycentral.

Nobody knows exactly how the fire started, but scientists think it must have been lightning or a bushfire, although Aboriginal burning practices could also be a cause.
