The talks between US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin made it possible to “contain” Russia and “de-escalate”. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba, transfers Reuters.
He appreciated the talks between the leaders of the two countries and thanked the United States for “key diplomatic participation” in an attempt to “return the Russian Federation to the negotiating table.”

At the same time, the Foreign Minister expressed confidence that during the video summit, Putin “heard very clear and strong signals about the escalation that Russia is carrying out along the border with Ukraine and in the region as a whole.”
Kuleba also added that the conversation between Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which is to take place on Thursday, December 9, will allow discussing further steps to “contain” Moscow and “reanimate the Normandy format”.
The Ukrainian president also made an assessment of the past negotiations between Putin and Biden. Zelensky positively perceived the very fact of their conversation, but refused to comment on it in detail before a personal conversation with the American president.
On December 7, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden held talks via video link. Their conversation lasted two hours. One of the main issues on her agenda was the tense situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
