UP: Spetstechnoexport company disrupted defense contracts
The Spetstechnoexport company, which recently came under the control of the Ministry of Defense from the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of Ukraine, was disrupting defense contracts and purchasing weapons at inflated prices. This is her accused journalists from Ukrainska Pravda (UP).
“Billion-dollar contracts are not always executed on time, and sometimes there are even transactions with signs of fraud,” the material says.
The publication cites a letter from the head of Spetstechnoexport to the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, from which it follows that the company failed to fulfill several contracts. Her debt to the department is almost $20 million.
At the same time, Spetstechnoexport explains the failure to fulfill obligations by the dishonesty of foreign arms suppliers. The publication also pointed out the purchase of weapons at inflated prices. For example, mortar rounds under contract cost 680 euros per unit, with an average market price of 520-560 euros.
On October 1, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov announced that the state enterprise Spetstechnoexport was being transferred from the Main Intelligence Directorate to the Ministry of Defense. The head of the department also submitted representations to the Cabinet of Ministers about the dismissal of his three deputies and the department’s state secretary.
