A mass has been celebrated on the occasion of the day of San Antonio de Padua and up to 45 new doctors have been invested
More than two years have elapsed since the Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM) was able to carry out an act as massive as the one it celebrated this Monday morning on the occasion of the festivity of its patron saint, San Antonio de Padua. The temple of the Jerónimos Monastery hosted, first, a Eucharist presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes, and later, a ceremony for awarding appointments and distinctions in the academic field.
The investiture of the new doctors, something that had not been possible to celebrate since before the coronavirus pandemic, in 2019, was one of the most symbolic moments of the morning. The 45 people who have since obtained the degree of doctor thus received the diploma and the medal accrediting the degree they acquired, the white gloves and the award-winning cap.
Although the matter of the new doctors did not cover the entirety of a ceremony that had begun at 12:00 and lasted about two hours. Other distinctions and appointments were also presented, including Óscar Aguilera Martínez, director of the chair of pathophysiology of oncological metabolism; Ángel Navarro Lima, director of the Acierta Life Science chair, or Pedro Manolles Marqueta, director of the Doping Prevention Unit of the chair of sports medicine, among others.
Before all this, at the beginning of the act it was the rector of the UCAM, Josefina García, who was in charge of ansalzar the work that the university itself carries out. “The best thing about this University are the people who form it, who feel involved in this project that has its raison d’être in the values of Christian humanism”, he stated after remembering all those who began the path of this university 25 years ago , for all those who have passed through this university and who have left us along the way. “All of them are still alive here.”
Likewise, García highlighted the change perpetrated in the university model of the UCAM after the first 25 years of life that the university reached last year. «We have considered that the innovation that this university is brimming with made it necessary to change the way it works, focused on improving the synergies between the different faculties and creating more horizontal structures that would facilitate decision-making. We hope that it will serve at least another 25 years and that it will lead us to as good a conclusion as the previous structure allowed us », he pointed out.
