Mahmoud Sharif, the billiards team player, won the first gold medal for our team in the Arab Billiards and Snooker Championship, for general and junior, currently being held in Riyadh.
The UAE billiards and snooker team is participating with 10 players out of 200 male and female players participating in the tournament representing 13 Arab countries, whose competitions continue until October 17th.
Sharif succeeded in winning the gold medal, after winning the individual 9-ball billiards final over Bahraini Hussein Marum 11-6.
Salem Al Nuaimi added a bronze medal in the 9-ball singles for juniors, after losing in the semi-final to Oman’s Mishari Hussein Al Musawi 6-7.
In the rest of the results in snooker, the UAE national team achieved three consecutive victories in the teams, defeating Yemen 3-0, Saudi Arabia 3-2, and Qatar 3-0, to qualify for the semi-finals.
In the masters snooker singles, the trio of Ahmed Shehab, Mohammed Shehab, and Mohammed Al-Joker qualified for the quarter-finals, with Ahmed Shehab meeting Bahraini Habib Sabah, while the duo, Mohammed Shehab and Mohammed Al-Joker, would meet together in the same round.
It is noteworthy that the list of UAE national team players includes 10 players, including 5 players in billiards, with an average of 3 players in the men’s category, namely Abdullah Al Hosani, Mahmoud Al Sharif, and Khaled Al Zarouni, and two players in the junior category, namely Salman Al Zaabi and Salem Al Nuaimi, in addition to 5 players in snooker, namely Muhammad Al Joker. Mohammed Shehab and Ahmed Shehab are “men”, and Khadem Al Muhairi and Saif Al Zaabi are “juniors”.
