The Ninth Dubai International Conference for Joint Surgery in the Middle East revealed that the health sector in the UAE will introduce the world’s latest robotic device for joint surgery, within two to three months from now, so that the UAE will be the third country in the world and the first in the Middle East, after South Korea and India.
“The new robot will give a virtual model of the location and perimeter of the operation, and accordingly all aspects of the surgery will be accurately calculated,” said Dr. Samih Al-Tarabishi, president of the 9th International Conference on Joint Surgery in the Middle East.
He added: “The patient will make a CT scan and then upload it to the computer in the robot, to make a plan for the cutting of the joint bone, and then make the cut to the bone without any human intervention, which gives a high accuracy of 99.9%, and then the joint is installed.
In a related context, the Ninth International Conference on Orthopedic Surgery in the Middle East organized today (Sunday) the International Conference on Nursing Specialized in Orthopedic and Joint Surgery, to present the latest scientific and medical developments for the care of orthopedic patients.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Saed Al-Salaymeh, President of the International Conference on Nursing, said: “Through this event, we are working to explore innovative strategies for best orthopedic nursing practices and research collaboration methods, by discussing the results of new scientific and medical research.”
He stressed the importance of transforming the best practices in the field of nursing care into a practical reality and practice, which helps to advance the science of the nursing profession in the various medical environments in various countries of the Middle East, pointing to the discussion of every talk and development in the field of orthopedic nursing in all scientific, practical, applied and administrative directions, and increasing knowledge. Evidence-based practice, exchange and discussion of concerns and risks for orthopedic nursing staff.
The conference dealt with the evolution of the role of nursing in orthopedic surgery, pediatric sports injuries in the knee, analgesics after orthopedic surgery, and nursing care for patients undergoing surgical interventions in orthopedic tumor surgery.
Conference participants talked about techniques for improving outcomes, managing pain using multi-therapy, training based on raising the efficiency of orthopedic nursing and the risks of occupational exposure, and reactivating normal activity after pelvic and femoral operations, in addition to best practices for pre- and post-total knee replacement rehabilitation.
