An Arab diplomatic delegation, headed by Jamal Al Musharreh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, met with senior officials of international and international organizations concerned with humanitarian, relief and health affairs to discuss the recent developments in Lebanon and discuss ways to confront the repercussions of the military escalation on the ground, and to stress the necessity of Urgent activation of humanitarian response plans.
Al-Musharrakh, in his capacity as Chairman of the Arab Group, met with the Troika and Arab ambassadors in Geneva, and with Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The talks focused on the need for urgent action in response to the emerging crisis and its repercussions, such as the internal displacement of civilians and the increased influx of refugees.
The Arab group also met with Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, where it was emphasized that the needs of the brotherly Lebanese people should be met quickly and that humanitarian aid and medical supplies should be intensified.
Al-Musharrekh and the Arab ambassadors also held talks with Mirjana Spoljaric-Eger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, during which they stressed the need for an active role for international organizations at this critical time, especially by the Committee of the Red Cross, and the need to take measures to respect international law and international humanitarian law and provide protection.
