Egyptians Mohamed Ibrahim “Kisho” and Mohamed Metwally will play for the bronze medal in his weight in Greco-Roman wrestling tomorrow “Wednesday” at the Tokyo Olympics.
“Kisho” started his campaign today in the eighth-finals of the 67-kg weight category by defeating the South Korean Hansoo Ryu 7-6, then he overcame the Armenian Karen Aslanian in the quarter-finals with points (7-7). In the semi-finals, he was close to qualifying for the title match and at least guaranteeing a silver by advancing over Ukrainian Parviz Nasipov, but the latter overturned his delay to win 7-6.
“Wednesday” will play the bronze with the winner between the Danish Fredrik Holmqvist Peirihus and the Russian under a neutral flag, Artem Surkov. In the same weight, Algeria’s Abdelmalek Merabet lost to South Korea’s Hanso Rio with a technical advantage 0-8, and Tunisia’s Slimane Nasr beat Russia’s Aker Labidi with the same result.
In the 87 kg weight category, Metwally beat Belarusian Kirill Maskevich with a technical advantage 9-1, then Cuban Daniel Grigorić Hichevarria 4-0, and in the semi-finals, he fell to Hungarian Victor Lorentz with points 2-9.
In the same weight, Algerian Bachir Sayed Azara defeated the Chinese in Bing in the final price 11-1, before losing in the quarter-finals to Ukrainian Zhan Pelnyuk with a points advantage (1-1).
In freestyle wrestling, Tunisian Marwa Amri lost to Sweden’s Hina Katharina Johansson 1-5 in the 62 kg weight final. The 32-year-old Amri won bronze in the 58 kg category at Rio 2016 and was runner-up at the 2017 World Championships in Paris.
