Florida gas stations are emptying
As the hurricane approaches MiltonFlorida gas stations are quickly running out of fuel, with 17.4% of stations reporting dry as of 6:30 pm ET, according to a Reuters report. GasBuddy.com analyst Patrick De Haan says demand is expected to increase, driven by mass evacuations. Florida, the third largest consumer of gasoline in the United States, lacks its own refineries and relies heavily on importing fuel by sea. Tampa Bay, a key hub for petroleum products and natural gas, has seen its fuel import operations disrupted, further hampering the state’s supply of gasoline.
Kinder Morgan has shut down its Central Florida Pipeline and fuel terminals in Tampa, and fuel deliveries are expected to stop once winds exceed 35 mph. Companies such as CITGO and Buckeye Partners have also closed their Tampa terminals. Experts fear Hurricane Milton could cause the worst fuel supply disruption in Florida since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, with possible delays in tanker deliveries until Sunday or Monday.
