Jorge Alva, who was selected in the ARCO Mexican Pacific League (LAMP) Draft last June, gave the lead to a three-run HR in the bottom of the fifth and the Tomateros de Culiacán beat the La Higuerita Selection 6-4 in the first preseason game held at the Tomateros Stadium.
Alva came close to giving the home team the lead in the first inning, after hitting a hard grounder through second with two in scoring position. Cristian Rodriguez made a great play to prevent it.
The one that won the game came in the second inning. Hansen López deposited it behind the left field fence, to put the score 1-0 in favor of the culichis.
The visitors responded with three in the top of the third, but the cherry offense quickly came to the fore in the fourth. With one out, Alva hit a double to left field and reached home on a wild pitch, after having gone to third on a stolen base.
In the fifth inning with two outs, Tomateros took a lead that would not be lost. Alva came to the plate with Cristian Lucero and José Cervantes on the bases, to bring them home with a tremendous home run all the way to right field.
The Culichi team added one more in the sixth inning. Cristian Lucero hit a drive to third that drove in the run on the spikes of Jesús Higuera.
Luis Aguayo was in charge of opening the duel, with reliefs from Baltazar Arredondo, José Ángel Sauceda, Aarón Medina, Iñaky Moreno (winner), Rubén Reyes, Jair Jiménez, Omar Sáinz and Axel Sauceda, who scored the rescue.
