Chucky is one of the most popular horror movies of the 80s. The story of Andy and his possessed doll managed to scare millions of people, since, for its time, seeing how a toy came to life to kill and steal souls it was quite disturbing.
The creator of the tape, Dan Mancini, took advantage of the success of the first installment to release six more parts. Even its franchise has released several remakes and even a series, whose second season is already being signed.
The story of the evil doll that inspired the Chucky movie
Filmmaker Dan Mancini was inspired by the story of Robert, a doll that belonged to painter Robert Eugene Otto, to create the iconic character of Chucky.
According to legend, Robert was given to the painter as a gift in 1903, when he was still a child. The woman who gave him this curious gift had worked for his family for a long time. In addition, she came from a Central American island where the practice of voodooism was quite common.
This little fact would explain the strange events that took place later. One of the first signs came when little Otto began to talk to the doll as if it were a real child. He was always heard answering disturbing questions and laughing nonsense.
At the same time, the neighbors affirmed that, when the family left the house, they saw the doll leaning out of the windows of the house, as if it could move on its own. To make matters worse, the boy began to experience excruciating nightmares.
It is even said that, on one occasion, while the boy was sleeping, a crash was heard in his room. When his parents went to see him, they found most of the furniture overturned and the doll lying at the foot of the bed. When they asked his son why he had done that, he answered them crying: “It wasn’t me, it was Robert.”
After these terrifying events, Otto’s parents decided to store the doll in the attic so that it would no longer cause any more problems. When the boy finally grew up, his old friend passed into the hands of a woman named Myrtle Reuterswhose daughter was allegedly attacked by Robert.
Myrtel knew she had to get rid of Robert, so she decided to donate him to the Fort East Martello Museum in 1994.which is where he currently stands, and according to some visitors, Robert curses anyone who disrespects him or takes a picture with him before asking permission.
