Sergio Bermejo was the best player in Real Zaragoza’s victory against Logroñés, a performance that was rewarded with his first goal: “It’s one of the most beautiful feelings in football and I hope to continue adding.” The 23-year-old footballer also highlights the figure of Juan Ignacio Martínez, whom he considers “a very close and happy person”, and makes it clear that they must continue working and improving: “We are in a good dynamic, but we have not yet done nothing because we are still close to the drops. The team has taken a step forward and we have to continue on that line ”.
– How have you been in these first three games of 2021? In what form point is it?
“The truth is that I feel pretty good.” The beginning of the year has been good for everyone. We have entered into a positive dynamic and I think that has been very good for all of us.
– What does it mean for the team to have come out of the relegation places nine days later?
“I think it gives us a little bit of confidence.” The team is in a good dynamic and seeing us out of the descent after so long will be good for us. We have these weeks to continue working, since we have not done anything yet because we are still close to the relegation places and we must continue to improve and work to keep pushing up.
– Now that there is a small stop, would you have preferred to continue playing to give continuity to that good dynamic or is it good for you to do a kind of preseason?
—This break will make us continue to consolidate concepts that the coach is asking us to improve those little things that we are missing and to continue promoting what we are doing well. On the other hand, being able to play this weekend, with the dynamics that we have, might have been positive, but we have all this week to improve and continue working.
– What has changed in the team to add seven points from the last nine?
—Football is moments and dynamics. With JIM we have chained a series of games in which the dynamics have been very positive and I think we have improved certain things that were penalizing us a lot previously. Those mistakes that we were making, which perhaps were details or lack of concentration at certain points, we have corrected. The team has taken a step forward and we have to continue on that line.
“What is JIM like?”
—He is a very close and cheerful person. From the first moment he arrived here, despite the fact that the situation was very complicated, he always tried to cheer us up and lift our spirits, since the team was sunk by the dynamics that we had. And I think it has. This week we have many days to give those strokes that he wants to give the team. I think that he is already beginning to give them and it is being seen in the parties.
– In the last games he has been playing indoors. Do you feel more comfortable? Do you notice that you participate more?
“In a position where I feel very comfortable.” I am a player who likes to associate and be in contact with the ball, I always try to adapt to what the coach asks of me and I think it is a good position for me.
—In front of Logroñés he made his debut as a scorer with the Real Zaragoza shirt. Has a weight been lifted? Do you assume that responsibility?
—We all like that feeling of scoring a goal, whether playing at the top or even in defense. It is one of the most beautiful sensations in football. The other day I had the opportunity to mark and inaugurate my scoring box; I don’t feel responsible for it, but it is true that those of us in the upper zone have a greater responsibility when it comes to scoring goals. I’m happy about it and I hope to continue adding.
—Your partner Toro Fernández has not yet been released. How are you seeing it on a day-to-day basis?
“Well, he’s working for it.” It is true that it is difficult for him to score that first goal that I think will make him add more. We are with him and he has the confidence of the whole team. Right now it is helping us with other things that may not be seen and it is giving us a bonus, not perhaps facing the door as we would all like, but surely it will begin to see the door soon.
