The Suicide Squad reintroduced DC Films and the supervillains under the direction of James Gunn. The film serves as a sequel to David Ayer’s film, but it also serves as a reboot for the story that hit the big screen in 2016.
In the new installment, a new group of supervillains held in Bell Reve, America’s most dangerous and deadly prison, were recruited by Argus to carry out an impossible mission that includes the threat of Starro.
In this grouping we could see old faces like Harley quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) and Amanda Waller Viola Davis). However, we also had the opportunity to meet more characters that enriched the adventure.
An unexpected ‘cameo’
Astute fans noted that while Joker (Jared Leto) did not appear in person, he was an important part of the story because of the impact he left on Harley Quinn. As we saw, she recalled her toxic relationship with the ‘Clown Prince of Crime’.
Not only did he tell how traumatic it was to be a couple with Joker, but he also revealed in detail how his breakup was and the consequences that they had to unfairly pay for their pets. So I make it clear that it was the same version that we met in 2016.
The Suicide Squad is part of the DC Extended Universe, where movies are interconnected to a greater or lesser extent. For this reason, references as direct as the one mentioned are never lacking throughout the saga.
