The 27-year-old from Milan won the vacant title by beating Demollari on points. Here are all the tricolors and titles that have remained vacant
On December 26, 2021, he awarded the last Italian title in professional boxing. Fateh Benkorichi, 27, of Maghreb origins, born and living in Milan, in Lucca won the vacant lightweight flag by beating his peer Marvin Demollari on points. Not unanimous verdict (96-95, 96-94, 95-96), but deserved success.
69 years later

Benkorichi was good at winning in the home of his rival, a Tuscan of Albanian origins. Repeat the Italian title obtained in the same category among amateurs, at the Absolutes of Gallipoli in 2014. For the Lucchese Boxing, organizer of the meeting together with Buccioni Boxing Production (Bbt), it was a great event. Lucca hadn’t hosted an Italian professional title for 69 years. On 1 May 1952 the local favorite Ivano Fontana won the light heavyweight flag, beating Gino Campagna before the limit in the 9th round. This time the home boxer didn’t make it, but he showed he had what it takes to try again. In fact, Demollari came out of the ring with his head held high.
the match
–
The match respected the tactical framework dictated by the characteristics of the boxers. Good coach Benkorichi, good at moving on his legs, not surprisingly nicknamed “The Style”. Brave fighter Demollari, aggressive like a “Pitbull”, his nickname. The Tuscan has always tried to shorten the distance and attack, especially with hooks. However, it was anticipated by the precise match shots of the rival, elegant with the jab and effective with the uppercut, which brought the decisive points on the judges’ cards. With a high pace and correct exchanges, the referee Marco Moscadelli rarely intervened, it was a match worthy of a tricolor. Both on orthodox guard, the two boxers were in their first experience on ten rounds. Their records: 9 wins and 3 defeats for Demollari; 11 victories, one defeat and one draw for Benkorichi, a pupil of the glorious Ottavio Tazzi Boxing Academy in Milan, who paid tribute to his rival at the microphone: “A big round of applause for him – he asked the audience – deserves it. Thanks bro!”.
the situation
–
Now the vacant Italian titles remain 4: flyweights, supergallo, middleweight and light heavyweight. The match between Andrea Roncon (Boxe Cavarzere-Chioggia) and Khalil El Harraz (Bbt) was defined by the FPI only for the middleweight, on February 25 in Vicenza in the subclou of the European Union title of supergallo between Luca Rigoldi and Cristian Rodriguez.
