Hurricane Iota, the thirtieth and most destructive this year in the Atlantic, struck the Colombian island of Providencia, where 6,000 people lived, and destroyed 80% of its housing stock.
Also, the element killed two people, another person is considered missing, said the Minister of Housing, Urban and Territorial Development of Colombia, Yonatan Malagon, reports RIA News.
“According to preliminary data, <...> almost 80% of houses are completely destroyed, 20% – partially”, – said Malagon, whose speech was broadcast on Twitter by the presidential administration of Colombia.
The minister added that all houses will be restored until 2022.
Providencia Island is located in the southwestern part of the Caribbean Sea. The population is about 6 thousand people.
