As for the village, it is Ingria, which is close to Turin in northern Italy, and is inhabited by only 46 people. As for the elections, a total of 30 people are running, meaning more than two-thirds of the population.
However, Igor De Santis, mayor of Ingria, faces a difficult challenge in the local elections scheduled for next week, as he seeks a fourth term in office.
According to a report by the British newspaper “The Guardian”, the town’s elections have a family character, as De Santis’ mother joined his competitor, Renato Polito, noting that his grandfather was the mayor of the village for 30 years.
“I asked my mother to join me, but after she saw that Polito’s list was mostly made up of women, she decided to join,” De Santis said. “They are all volunteers who worked hard for the village.”
Ingria is located in the Suana Valley surrounded by mountains, and faces problems such as population migration due to poor services and challenges related to snow during the winter.
Since 2022, when it was ranked among the most beautiful villages in Italy, Ingria has also had to deal with an increase in tourist numbers beyond its limited capabilities.
