Anton Gorelkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, told Izvestia what actions the leadership of the Facebook social network should take to unblock it in Russia.
The deputy commented on the decision of the Meta company to stop showing ads in Russia. According to the expert, this move by the company can be seen as an attempt to curb the spam attack on the company’s advertising network: “with coordinated actions, it was clogged with anti-Russian ads, used to spread fakes,” he said.
However, according to Gorelkin, this is not enough to lift the blocking.
“The social network must return the frozen accounts of the Russian media, eliminate the gross violation of the rights of our citizens to receive objective information. It is also necessary to eliminate all other legitimate claims of Roskomnadzor and complete the landing process initiated by the company, which will ensure the further implementation of Russian laws, ”he emphasized in an interview with Izvestia.
The day before, Roskomnadzor blocked the social network Facebook in Russia. It was noted that since the start of Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass, Roskomnadzor has repeatedly sent Facebook demands to remove 1,055 materials in the total score with calls for participation in unauthorized mass events against the actions of the Russian Federation. However, the administration of the social network ignored them.
At the same time, according to Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, the shutdown of Instagram in the Russian Federation will happen by analogy with Facebook. At the same time, it is not yet known whether the WhatsApp messenger will be blocked in Russia, he said.
In addition, Roskomnadzor restricted access to the social network Twitter.
On March 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law criminalizing fake news about the Russian Armed Forces and calls for anti-Russian sanctions.
The situation in Donbass escalated on February 17, 2022. In the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including from heavy weapons, was reported. The republics announced a general mobilization, the evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia, and also asked to recognize their independence. On February 21, Putin signed decrees recognizing their sovereignty.
On February 24, the Russian leader announced a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. Then the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov clarified that the special operation had two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. He pointed out that both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
