HBO Max premiered the miniseries “The Staircase” (“The Staircase”), which recounts one of the most mediatic legal cases in the United States in recent years. Based on the kathleen peterson storya woman who died in strange circumstances at home and justice immediately accused her husband, Michael Peterson, a successful writer, to be the prime suspect in the murder. The protagonists are two great Hollywood stars: Colin Firth and Toni Collette, which is attractive to the public. The series is created by Antonio Campos, who also directs six chapters of the eight with which the plot will feature on the platform.
“The ladder”, the documentary
When “The Staircase”, the documentary, premiered in 2004 (which can be seen on Netflix), it made an impact. Not only was it one of the first true crime movies to gain mainstream attention. It also showed that international audiences were willing to sit through an hour-long docuseries if the topic was compelling enough. Now, 18 years later, this title comes to streaming this time as a scripted series.
The real case dates back to December 9, 2001when Michael Peterson he calls the police reporting the death of his wife and says that she had fallen down the stairs in a domestic accident. The police did not take long to doubt this explanation and blamed him for having beaten her to death, later simulating an accident. Thus, the series takes us through the judicial process that led to the case, which immediately became media coverage.
