The Permanent Commission of the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) has approved this Friday the granting to Elena Congost of an extraordinary ADOP scholarshipsimilar to the one that would have corresponded to her for winning a bronze medal at the Paris Paralympic Games, where she was disqualified after helping her guide to prevent her from falling.
The 37-year-old from Madrid came in third place in the Paris 2024 marathon for visually impaired athletes. However, was later disqualified for letting go of the rope that linked him to his guide, Mia Carol, to help him when he fainted a few meters from the finish line. Getting loose is prohibited, and the organization sanctioned the Spanish woman after the test.
The decision adopted by the governing body of the CPE means that Elena Congost will now begin to receive a scholarship 2,050 euros per monththe same monthly amount that your guide will also receive. His coach, for his part, will now receive 900 euros per month. These are amounts corresponding to the Bronze Podium scholarship, which is what would have corresponded to him if he had won the medal in Paris.
This extraordinary scholarship will be valid until the approval of the ADOP Plan for the year 2025 and the resolutions of the Decision Panels that the aforementioned plan has planned, pending approval, which could happen in the first quarter of next year.
The award of this scholarship is an exceptional decision of the Permanent Commission of the CPE outside the ADOP 2024 Plan, which was approved at the General Assembly of the CPE on December 20, 2023.
It had to be taken this way since it had not already been planned no meeting of the ADOP Plan Decision Panel in force during the year 2024 or until the implementation of the new ADOP Plan for the 2025-2028 cycle, foreseeably in the first months of the year 2025.
