The Spanish Lawyers consider it essential to immediately suspend all the reports scheduled for today and tomorrow in the territories affected by Dana, which has strongly shaken the Levante area.
The Council has forwarded its request to the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, the General Council of the Judiciary, the State Attorney General’s Office, the Department of Justice of the Valencian Community and the Superior Court of Justice of this same community. .
After requesting the authorities to suspend all avoidable movements, the General Council, in coordination with the Autonomous Council of the Legal Profession of the Valencian Community, considers it necessary to contribute to reducing the risks for citizens and professionals that movements originating in the field of Justice.
More specifically, the Council considers it necessary to suspend all charges in the judicial districts affected by Dana and those surrounding them.
Likewise, it understands that the procedural deadlines for all procedures must be suspended for the minimum essential time, guaranteeing in all cases the provision of essential services. Given the impossibility of traveling and the problems with electronic communications, the Law Office considers it necessary to adopt this measure to prevent the consequences of the damage from harming the defendants.
The president of the General Council, Salvador González, maintains permanent contact with the president of the Valencian Autonomous Council, Fernando Candela, to whom he has conveyed the solidarity and support of the entire legal profession.
